Small Cattle Ranch
Idaho Trail Riding
image fpo
It’s a jungle out there. Put the stress of everyday life behind you, and head for the Small Cattle Ranch, a 130-year-old, 130,000-acre, family-operated ranch nestled between the Bitterroot and Grand Teton Mountains, near Dubois, Idaho. Experienced trail riders are welcome. You’ll be provided with a solid ranch mount —
"I will not have a guest ride something I wouldn’t," says ranch owner Butch Small — and the ranch takes out small groups of six to seven guests only. Some rides cover federal and Caribou Targhee National Forest lands. "You can ride all day for three days straight and never see anybody but a sheepherder and wildlife," adds Small.

The ranch offers five-day trips (Monday through Friday), from May through October; the gateway city is Idaho Falls, Idaho. You’re responsible for your own lodging.
