For two
years, the top 20 timed event cowboys in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys
Association (PRCA) rode into the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma for the
annual Wrangler World's Greatest Roper World Championship. New in 2008, Lazy E
Productions is proud to announce that this highly successful and popular event
is moving west to Reno, Nevada on June 21st and 22nd. The event will be held in
conjunction with two of the greatest western events in the world "The Reno
Rodeo" and "The Bob Feist Invitational Team Roping".
Organizers from the
Reno Rodeo Association, Lazy E Productions, and the Bob Feist Invitational met
in Las Vegas this past December to finalize the agreement to move the event from
late fall in Oklahoma to early summer in Reno. All combined, organizers are
extremely excited in making the first weekend of the Reno Rodeo one spectacular
show by combining the Reno Rodeo, the Wrangler World's Greatest Roper, and the
Bob Feist Invitational Team Roping - all within 3 action-packed days. "The Reno
Rodeo welcomes this new world class event to Reno", said Reno Rodeo President
Mark Elston. "The addition of the Wrangler World's Greatest Roper will make the
first weekend of the Reno Rodeo a can't miss among rodeo fans across the
country".
The Wrangler World's Greatest Roper is one of pro rodeo's most
unique events and is patterned after the highly successful Wrangler Timed Event
Championship - the event is a true all-around test of roping skills. Each
contestant is required to compete in all three roping disciplines: tie-down
roping, team roping heading, and team roping heeling. All totaled, each of the
20 invited contestants will rope 12-head of stock over two days with the top
five roping an additional 3-head to determine the event champion.
The
Wrangler World's Greatest Roper was developed by the Lazy E in 2006 to determine
the best roper in the world - the man who could stand out in more than his
specialty roping event, the man who could be consistent over two days and five
rounds of over-all competition. This event attracts the biggest names in the
rodeo industry in addition to thousands of fans from across the country! Some of
the cowboys tentatively scheduled to compete for the $80,000.00 purse are
highlighted by 5-time PRCA All Around World Champion Trevor Brazile; two-time
World's Greatest Roper Daniel Green; eight-time World Champion Speed Williams;
eight-time World Champion Joe Beaver; and World Champions Matt Sherwood, Patrick
Smith and Ryan Jarrett.
Each round of competition features excitement
with leaders changing after every run, with only seconds separating them. The
champion isn't determined until the last rope is thrown, the flag is dropped and
the clock has stopped. For the past two years, former Wrangler Timed Event
World Champion Daniel Green from Oakdale, California bested the fields and took
home title honors worth $47,500. In moving to Reno, the event is shaping up to
be spectacular and is gaining national recognition as a premier world
championship.
The Wrangler World's Greatest Roper is sponsored by
Wrangler, the Silver Legacy Resort Casino, Dodge, Priefert Ranch & Rodeo
Equipment, Boyd Gaming, Serratelli Hats, Gist, and Cactus Saddlery.
