An outbreak of Vesicular Stomatitis in New Mexico impacted competitors traveling
to the National High School Finals Rodeo, according to the Farmington, New
Mexico
Daily Times. There have been only two reported cases, both in De Baca
County. Two other VS cases occurred in Texas.
Canadian competitors have to
quarantine their horses in another state for three weeks after the competition
if they are going to be allowed back in to Canada. U.S. horses traveling from
other states may have to undergo an exam before returning home, according to the
newspaper.
New Mexico State Veterinarian David Fly is working with other
states to minimize the impact of the virus.
