Rockies Expand Trail Program

The Rocky Mountain Horse Associations competitive trail program is now open to all participants.

Last year’s inaugural Rocky Mountain Horse Association’s competitive trail program is about to get even better. In 2007, the initiative was limited to horses born and foaled in Kentucky. In 2008, all Rocky Mountain horses will be eligible for participation and awards in the five official rides.

The Kentucky Non-Race Breed Fund served as a catalyst for the creation of a competitive trail series. The Kentucky legislature mandated that only horses bred and foaled in Kentucky were eligible for state-taxpayer-supported awards through the Kentucky breeder’s incentive program.

However, all competitive trail participants will be eligible for first, second, and third place finishes at each ride. The RMHA will also give year-end high-point awards.

One ride per month is scheduled in May, June, September, and October 2008. Exact dates are pending and will be posted on the RMHA website. For more information, call (606) 724-2354, or visit www.rmhorse.com.
