For most of the past 30 years Peruvian Horses have been split
between two United States registries. When the two finally merged in 2006, there
was some discord among members who disagreed with the action, citing
insufficient votes to ratify the agreement. However, the breed’s national
registry in Peru has given the fledgling association its blessing.
Last summer, the North American Peruvian Horse Association and the
Peruvian Asociacion Nacional de Criadores y
Propietarios de Caballo Peruano de Paso signed an
agreement that mutually recognizes each other’s registries, and recognizes NAPHA
as the only U.S. association authorized to register Peruvian Horses in this
country.
"This is a tremendous accomplishment for our two registries," noted Linda
Virgin, current NAPHA president. "We look forward to working closely with Peru
in our efforts to gain worldwide recognition for our horse." For more
