The Thomas and Mack Arena in Las Vegas is home to the Wrangler National Finals
Rodeo, but every second year for the past decade it has also hosted the jumping
and dressage World Cups.
The Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping and Dressage Finals
was held in Vegas during the second weekend in April. The event attracts riders
from all over the world who qualified, including the reigning “queen of
dressage,” Anky van Grunsven. Van Grunsven has won the gold medal for the past
three Olympics, and has won World Cup prizes nine out of the last 14 competitions.
In the jumping, the American team is quite strong this year, with Olympic
team members McClain Ward and Beezie Madden as well as veteran competitor Todd
Minikus as part of the team.
This will be the last time, for the foreseeable
future, that the event will be held in the United States. Future events are
scheduled for locations in Europe.
