The
New York Times recently took a rare look at the market for Hunter/Jumper
horses.
The article entitled, "For Equestrians, A Buyers Market in Horses", ran in the
business section of the New York Times two weeks ago. The article speculated
that prices on sport horses in the hunter/jumper market had dipped because “of
the precarious financial situation of some horse owners and dealers. Board,
training and veterinary expenses can cost thousands of dollars a month, and some
are eager to lighten the financial load of horses under their care in a
recession,” wrote the Times.
The article noted that, like the real estate market, the current hunter
jumper horse market is experiencing an economic correction. The regular horse
market, for backyard and regular horses, was not mentioned in the article.
