In the coming months, Congress will begin work on the reauthorization of Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, and the results could have an impact on trail riders.

What do highways and recreational trails have in common? When the bill was created, the recreational trails program, or RTP, was folded into it. Currently, the bill provides approximately $677 million for thousands of state and local trail projects across the country, including many that benefit equestrians.
 
The American Horse Council is asking Congress to reauthorize, and even increase, funding for non-motorized recreational trails. The lobbying group, along with AQHA, is asking horse trail lovers and concerned equestrians to contact their representatives and urge them to vote yes on reauthorization—and the increased funding for the recreational trails program.
