Restrictions Eased on Florida Horses
Never heard of Equine Piroplasmosis? It’s a relatively rare blood-borne parasitic disease that is primarily transmitted by ticks or contaminated needles.  The disease was eradicated from Florida in the 1980’s. However, in August, a horse in Florida tested positive for EP. As a result, certain restrictions and quarantines have been set in motion to prevent the disease from spreading.  According to investigators, there have been a total of seven counties and seven premises in Florida with horses that tested positive for EP.

To the relief of some, the positive horses were directly linked to two horses and shared needles, not from ticks. All testing on the collected ticks has been negative for EP.
