Red Sox Success Could Bring Back Boston Mounted Unit

The Boston Herald is reporting that city officials are concerned about crowd control should the Boston Red Sox make the World Series.

In the past, the Boston Police Department had used its mounted force to control rioting crowds at Fenway Park after the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004. The BPD said it would bring in state Mounties if needed.

At the same time, an upcoming mayoral election might be a boon for mounted patrol advocates. City Councilor Michael Flaherty, who is running against incumbent Mayor Thomas Menino, said he will bring back the horses if he is elected.
