The
Boston Herald is reporting that city officials are concerned about crowd
control should the Boston Red Sox make the World Series.
In the past, the
Boston Police Department had used its mounted force to control rioting crowds at
Fenway Park after the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004. The BPD said it
would bring in state Mounties if needed.
At the same time, an upcoming
mayoral election might be a boon for mounted patrol advocates. City Councilor
Michael Flaherty, who is running against incumbent Mayor Thomas Menino, said he
will bring back the horses if he is elected.
