Seventy-six Arabian horses in severely unhealthy conditions have been moved to a new location and their owner arrested, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The horses were near starvation, according to news accounts. Gordon Dennis Key, owner of the ranch, turned himself in and has been charged on a Class A misdemeanor, and fined $4000. He could go to jail for a year.

In Marion County, Florida, investigators seized 33 malnourished horses which had been under investigation for months. The horses were almost all 400 to 500 pounds underweight, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The owner, Lope Gonzalez, had been warned about the conditions at the farm and threatened with criminal action if he did not properly care for the horses.
