The Knapp family, owner and operator of the Lazy K Ranch is busy foaling and
preparing for its 26th annual “Pick-A-Colt” Day Sale scheduled for
June 6, 2009.
Most of the Quarter Horse and Paint foals hitting the ground will be
included in the sale along with yearlings and some very kid-friendly riding
horses. This unique sale, not
auction, offers approximately 80 head from the bloodlines of Colonel Freckles,
Doc O’ Lena, Gay
Bar King, Hollywood Dun It, Peppy San Badger and Shining Spark.
By
the end of April, each of the horses to be sold will be available to view online
at LazyKRanch.com. Included will be their photographs, pedigrees, sires, and new
this year, pictures of their dams.
Prices will be posted prior to the sale. At least 50 head are priced between
$575.00 and $975.00.
“Last year was the first year that we added the Internet sale option
and it was very well received,” said Larry Knapp. “Although we love to have folks come to
the ranch for our sale, we think the Internet is a great way for those not able
to make the trip, to get a quality horse at a great
price.”
On
sale day, June 6th, the ranch gates open at 8:30 a.m. The
sale begins at 10:00 a.m. followed by
the online portion of the sale.
“It’s quite a sight to
see when we open up the corrals at 10:00,” said Sherry Knapp. “People are so excited to finally be
able to PICK that perfect horse they have been researching online, and then it's
first come first served to purchase.”
The Lazy K Ranch, owned and operated by the Knapp family, has run
cattle and horses in the San Joaquin
Valley and
Sierra Nevada
Mountains for three generations. “We started out as a cow outfit,” said
Mike Knapp. “In the summer our cows
run on 45,000 thousand acres at elevations up to 6500 feet. To get these cows gathered in the fall
we need a horse with a good mind, good legs and a big heart.”
