If you own an American Quarter Horse but never bothered to put his or her
registration papers in your name, now’s your chance.
The AQHA currently has
a special “amnesty” program which will allow you to update your horse’s
ownership papers for only $15 per horse—regardless of how many times he or she
has been sold. Normally, there would be a $15 charge for every time the horse
changed hands and the transfer paperwork wasn’t completed. That charge would be
$50 for nonmembers.
Updating your horse’s paper is a good idea for several
reasons. It provides verification that you own a particular horse, increases
your horse’s value, makes him or her eligible to compete in various events, and
makes any offspring eligible for registration when bred to another AQHA
recognized horse.
The AQHA has not said how long this special transfer opportunity will be
available—only that it’s a “limited time” offer. Call (806) 376-4811 for
assistance in transferring your horse. You can download a transfer report from
www.aqha.com/forms/index.html.
