Green, DVM, DACVIM, DABVP, of Gainesville, Fla.,
was installed as the 54th president of the American Association
of Equine Practitioners during the group’s annual convention in Orlando,Fla.,
Dec. 1 – 5. She will serve through 2008.
With a distinguished career in academia, Dr. Green
currently is a professor and chair of the Department of Large Animal Clinical
Sciences at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. She
also is the chief of staff of the college’s Large Animal Veterinary Medical Center. Dr. Green previously was a
member of the veterinary faculties at Mississippi State University, the University of Missouri and the University of Tennessee.
A 1973 graduate of the Auburn University College of
Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Green is board certified by both the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM)
and the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP). She served as
president of the ABVP from 1993 – 1995 as well as president of the American
Association of Veterinary Clinicians from 1995 –
1996.
Dr. Green’s work with the AAEP includes serving as the
District III director from 1996 – 1999 and chair of the Internship and Student
Relations Committee and the AAEP Foundation’s Student Scholarship Task
Force. She also has been a member of the Research, Educational Programs,
Nominating, 50th Anniversary and Public Relations committees.
She most recently served as the AAEP’s president-elect. Dr. Green actively
participates in the equine industry on state and national levels and has a long
history of volunteer work in her community.
“Dr. Green brings many terrific qualities to the AAEP
presidency – enthusiasm, an unmatched work ethic and, most importantly, the
desire to do what is best for the horse,” said David L. Foley, AAEP executive
director. “I am sure 2008 will prove to be another successful year for our
association under Dr. Green’s leadership.”
A native of Tampa, Fla., Dr. Green has three children – Ashby
Jr., Stacy and Wade.
The
American Association of Equine Practitioners, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., was founded in 1954 as a non-profit
organization dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse. Currently, the
AAEP reaches more than 5 million horse owners through its over 9,000 members
worldwide and is actively involved in ethics issues, practice management,
research and continuing education in the equine veterinary profession and horse
industry.
