Months after the freak death of 21 polo ponies in Palm Beach County, the
United States Polo Association says it will start to randomly test ponies.
A common dietary supplement, selenium, can be fatal in large doses. The
ponies that died in Florida had extremely high levels of selenium in their
blood.
The testing will begin with the South Florida polo season, when approximately
700 ponies will arrive in Palm Beach County and other areas of the state for the
winter season.
