Much of the world focused on Barbaro during his accident and subsequent care, and in
doing so, equine health and research was never more in the forefront of the
American public’s eye. Now, Pfizer and the National Thoroughbred Racing
Association have teamed up to fund a new study of lamintis, which is what
ultimately caused the great horse’s death.
The Barbaro Memorial Fund, as it is
called, will help encourage further research into this potentially deadly and
confusing disease. Donations are being taken through a website,
www.ridingwithbarbaro.org, where
more information is available about the program. Horse enthusiasts can also
purchase “riding with barbaro” bracelets.
