Packing for the Mustang Makeover
September 16, 2008

There’s something about the Mustang horse that resonates with horse lovers, especially American horse lovers. So when I was offered the opportunity to attend the Extreme Mustang Makeover in Fort Worth, Texas, I was really excited.

I am leading a workshop on “Horses In Ministry,” and am amazed at the emails I have already received from people asking about the workshop. (Unknown to most myhorse.com or Perfect Horse readers, my primary role is as a horse ministry advisor, helping people to develop ministries sharing the love of God). I am hearing about all kinds of outreach efforts, from therapeutic riding to work with at-risk children, to trail-riding fellowships to Cowboy church. It is great to hear of so many people finding their niche when it comes to partnering with horses for this purpose.

But don’t get the idea that this will be all work and no fun! I’ve packed my jeans and boots and am debating how dressed up or down I should be. In the end, I’m sure I’ll take what’s comfortable, because I hope to be able to watch a lot of horses and trainers. Imagine 150 formerly wild Mustangs and more than 150 trainers hoping to capture part of the $50,000 prize money! And that’s in addition to the 200 yearlings and trainers competing for $20,000. The three- and four-year-old horses will compete on the ground and in a riding competition (after only 100 days of training!), and the yearlings will be judged on conditioning, groundwork, and a “horse course” of obstacles. All the horses competing will be available for adoption, so that should be exciting, too.

Stay tuned, because I’ll let you know how it goes!

Good Morning, I too have a ministry with horses. I teach folks on how to have a good relationship with a horse. You can check out my book titled: Life With A Thoroughbred Named Evander. Publish America is the publisher. This book is about an amazing retired race horse named Evander. It talks about heart warming moments, funny antics, and a gold nugget on how to have a good relationship with your horse. Evander's book needs more exposure. Everyone who reads it, is touched in a special way. Lord Bless You in Your Horse Ministry, Sincerely, Ned Jones email: nedsphot@pacbell.net

I would love to know how to start such a program myself. Where can I learn more? I'd also love to connect with other horse-ministry-minded persons.

I will be anxious to hear how this went for you. God is using you in a very neat way. I have seen the Extreme Mustang Makeover on tv and just love it. When I am riding my horse, I like to sing a praise song and it seems like Doc just goes right along with the beat. What a great way to see God's beauty on horseback. I am truly blessed. Have a glorious time.

Hi ...we live in Missouri (near KC). We have 12 acres and 5 horses and a pony. I presently work with At-Risk teens in the local high school. My husband sent me your blog sight today via email. I am completeing my degree in Organizational management and Christian leadership this coming Spring. My husband is a retired physical therapist working for now as a medicare consultant. It is our desire to statre a horse rescue/kid rescue ranch...but funds are lean...so we aren't sure how that will ever happen. I am however always interested in more training for my own abilities to be sharpened as much as possible. Do you have any seminar's coming up in the KC area?
