People send me lots of
e-mails which I really like......and some can bring a tear to my eye because
owning a horse is deep with feelings and emotions. You know what I mean if
you own a horse! Me, I can get teary-eyed watching the Christmas
Budweiser commercials with the Clydesdales. Or the old Miller
commercial with the horse pulling the sleigh along the snowy road
while "I'll be Home for Christmas" plays in the background.
Frank in Oklahoma sent
the following so I wanted to share this with you. I have added some of my
own thoughts at the end. And if you don't get at least one tear and a smile from
some of it, well, you just don't understand that bond between horse and
owner.
"Our Lives With
Horses"
You
know what it's like if you ever........
Chocked back tears
watching a newborn foal wobble to its feet for the first time.
Watched, gave a sigh
of relief and wiped away more than a few tears when your favorite horse
struggled to his feet after surgery and then stood their looking at you.
Chucked to yourself as
a patient pony carrying a tiny tot trotted through a barrel pattern at a saddle
club play day.
Felt the ground
tremble as an eight-up hitch of gentle giants towed a wagon into an arena.
Had
your heart stop when you saw your horse lying motionless in the pasture on a
warm summer day and then waited breathlessly for his ear to flick.
Cheered when
Seabiscuit made his final surge to beat War Admiral.
Cruised along the
highway, saw a horse in a pasture, slowed down and wondered what it would be
like to ride him -- or have him in your barn.
Drew in your breath
and held it as horse and rider approached a six-foot wall.
Flipped through TV
channels and stopped when a horse suddenly appeared -- regardless of the program
or commercial.
Smiled as your horse
in morning play as he raced across the pasture, stopped, turned to you, stood
with head erect and snorted at you with a try-and-catch-me attitude.
Watched wild horses
grazing at the foot of a hill.
Felt a sort of kinship
to someone you've never meet who has on a pair of boots, jeans, a certain
belt buckle, hat or a tee-shirt saying "Horses are my Life".
Felt your heart warm
when you walk into the barn and your horse nickers softly to you.
Slid your hand under
the saddle blanket and felt your horse's body warmth warm your hands on a
cold morning.
Think about going
down one certain trail and when you get there, your horse turns and goes down
that trail.
Brushing your horse's
mane and he turns his head towards you so you can brush his forelock.
Scratching your
horse's neck and he raises his head so you can get that 'certain itchy
spot.' When it's found, he rolls up his lip and puts his head over your
shoulder so you'll scratch a little longer.
And
lastly, with the halter off having your horse walk beside you. He just
stays with you. Stride for stride. His ears up.
His eyes aglow. You glance at him, smile and put your hand on
the crest of his neck. You and your horse -- a team of
one.......
Go
hug your horse.....
