The PRCA lost another lawsuit a couple weeks ago when a Colorado Springs, Colo., judge ruled against them in a suit brought by PRCA member James Warren. In 2006, Warren attempted to make significant changes in the PRCA Board of Directors by gathering proxy votes from the membership. The court found that the PRCA (1) never gave Warren the correct number of proxies he needed to constitute a quorum and (2) the PRCA BOD voted to do away with proxy voting prior to the delivery of Warren’s signature list. The ruling means that the PRCA will have to hold a general membership meeting in Colorado Springs between Sept. 1 and 30. Six hundred and twenty five members will constitute a quorum and may be present or vote by proxy. The agenda and amendments being considered aren’t clear as of yet, however, I’ll continue to look into it. What does it mean? Not sure. Except that the PRCA is being held accountable, if not by it’s own members, then by the court system of Colorado. My only hope is that the membership takes the time and interest to be involved, recognize this opportunity and make the changes it sees as necessary for the betterment of rodeo.
